Virtual Radiologic

Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications do your radiologists need?

Virtual Radiologic contracts only U.S.-trained and board-certified radiologists who reside in the United States. On your behalf, our staff will prepare the licensing, credentialing and insurance applications required for you to practice in a variety of states.

What are the benefits of working with Virtual Radiologic?

  • Unbeatable quality of life and the freedom to work anywhere in the United States where a high-speed Internet connection is available.
  • Earn prime compensation as a medical professional and work as little as 26 weeks per year. The days of working a full shift and being on-call at night are over. No politics, no interruptions—just more time enjoying life
  • Receive all the equipment necessary to deliver diagnostic interpretations, as well as business services including licensing and credentialing administration, call center support, and medical malpractice insurance.
  • Ability to work with non-medical staff in a unified team environment.
  • Enhanced lifestyle and increased family time.
  • Equity ownership opportunities.
  • Easy and fast consultations with other Virtual Radiologic physicians on difficult cases.
  • Invitation to work from Virtual Radiologic's destination reading rooms in Hawaii and Minnesota.
  • Dedicated radiologist support from our Physician Relations staff.

Can I read at home?

Absolutely. Virtual Radiologic's centralized call center will assist as a "virtual secretary/technologist" to greatly limit the number of distracting phone calls during your workday.

How do I dictate cases or transfer reports?

All cases are dictated using a combination of macros based on modality and voice recognition technology. Our radiologists use a standard format for the reports, which are faxed or emailed automatically to the hospital by our Radiology Information System (RIS) after the dictation is complete.

Do I need extensive computer skills?

No. Most radiologists easily adapt to our user-friendly systems, but we do offer initial training prior to starting. We provide 24x7 support to keep your equipment running smoothly.

Will working via teleradiology impair my productivity and earning potential?

No. Virtual Radiologic's carefully selected and customized systems break new ground — not just for teleradiology but also in all areas of radiology. Our paperless system exceeds the efficiency levels of most major hospital PACS/RIS systems, despite operating remotely. A great deal of attention has been paid to workflow and ergonomics in the selection and design of our customized systems.

How does Virtual Radiologic provide incentives to its most productive radiologists?

We offer volume-based bonus compensation above base guaranteed compensation in order to compensate for both extra case volume and extra work shifts.

How does Virtual Radiologic differ from other "nighthawk" and teleradiology providers?

  • You can live and work in the U.S.-based location of your choice, including from the comfort of your home
  • We were founded and are administered by radiologists who maintain an active role in the practice
  • Our highly qualified doctors and dedicated staff develop solid relationships with clients centered on the shared goal of quality patient care
  • We perform our own quality assurance reviews of interpretations, provide full IT and customer support around the clock, and assure the medical liability coverage of all of our radiologists

Can I become an equity owner in Virtual Radiologic?

At the time of hiring, all Virtual Radiologic physicians are eligible to participate in the company's equity ownership program. One key advantage over a fixed location practice is that ownership in Virtual Radiologic is portable and the radiologist is not required to liquidate holdings in order to change geographic location.
