Virtual Radiologic Wins 2005 Tekne Emerging Innovation Award for Technology Leadership and Achievement

Tekne Awards Honor Key Leaders and Innovators in Minnesota Industries

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, November 17, 2005 - Virtual Radiologic (VRC) was named the winner in the emerging innovation category at the 2005 Tekne Awards held at the Minneapolis Convention Center on Nov. 10. The Tekne Awards recognize Minnesota's outstanding technology achievements and leaders.

Virtual Radiologic augments and assists radiology practices, hospitals and imaging facilities with radiographic interpretations through world-class technology. The company's services help alleviate healthcare constraints reaching critical mass across the U.S.: a growing shortage of skilled, accredited radiologists; a demand for quality healthcare 24/7/365 and an upsurge in the use of radiographic technology for diagnostic purposes.

"Innovative technology is fundamental to VRC," said Dr. Sean Casey. "We are recognized across the U.S. as a pioneer in the new high growth industry of telemedicine. VRC has become a prime example of forward thinking to address critical state and national healthcare issues through innovation, the convergence of medical and digital technology, and collaboration with other high-tech companies such as Vital Images, right here in Minnesota."

Presented by the Minnesota High Tech Association (MHTA) and Minnesota Technology, Inc. (MTI), in partnership with Medical Alley/MNBIO, the Tekne Awards annually recognizes Minnesota's best and brightest technology users and developers in innovation, development, education, commercialization and management of technology in Minnesota. A list of all recipients and finalists is available online at www.tekneawards.org.

"Receiving a Tekne Award is a strong confirmation that Virtual Radiologic is a leader in technology business innovation," said Wayne Pletcher, Ph. D., president of MTI. "We're proud to honor companies like VRC that add to our state's success in an increasingly competitive global economy."

"Minnesota has long been a hotbed of innovation," said Kate Rubin, president of MHTA. "Thanks to technology innovators and leaders like this years' recipients, the environment for innovation is stronger than ever."
