Frequently Asked Questions
What are the benefits for my practice?
- Quality, timely reports from U.S. board-certified radiologists, operating as an extension of your own practice.
- Reliable services and technology leading to improved patient care.
- Customized services to meet your individual requirements.
- Affordable rates.
- A reduction of your in-house radiologists' stress and workload — improving their quality of life and job satisfaction.
How does Virtual Radiologic differ from other "nighthawk" service providers?
- Our proprietary, standards-based PACS/RIS technology features hassle-free, rapid and no/low-cost installation.
- Virtual Radiologic is a new breed of radiology physician practices, and we take our responsibilities seriously. Our radiologist founders and executives play active roles in the clinical practice of both our primary and backup coverage. Our physicians and staff develop solid relationships with clients and are focused on the shared goal of quality patient care.
- We perform our own quality assurance reviews of interpretations, provide full IT and customer support around the clock, and assure the medical liability coverage of all of our radiologists. Also, because we are not limited by our radiologists' locations, we have a wider range of highly qualified radiologists from which to draw.
- We provide a wide range of teleradiology services including evening and weekend, daytime and vacation coverage, as well as subspecialty consultations.
Are your radiologists well qualified?
Virtual Radiologic offers American Board of Radiology-certified radiologists. We ensure our radiologists are licensed, credentialed and insured to practice in your state. Additionally, the majority of our radiologists are fellowship-trained in a wide range of subspecialties including neuroradiology, muscloskeletal, body, emergency radiology, pediatrics, vascular, positron emission transmission (PET) and cardiac CT angiography.
Do you provide malpractice insurance?
We provide international medical liability insurance via an A-rated U.S.-based carrier (valid in all 50 states and the District of Columbia and offer proof of adequate coverage before we begin services.
What are the start-up costs?
Virtual Radiologic offers no or low-cost installation, thanks to proprietary standards-based technology that integrates seamlessly with your existing resources.
How long does it take to begin your services?
The time varies from one week to several months. Speed of implementation depends on radiologist licensing requirements, facility credentialing and privilege issues, and your existing technology. Temporary facility privileges and coordination with your IT team can speed the process. We pre-license our radiologists in most states across the country to speed the commencement of service.
How can Virtual Radiologic offer such reasonable rates?
Our radiologists can cover more than one facility at a time and are therefore more efficiently utilized than a typical teleradiology provider. We base our services on simple cost structures and pay scales, and our rates are very competitive.
What technology do our clients need to have?
Your facility needs to have high-speed Internet access (DSL/ADSL, cable or T1 Line), and preferably a fax machine. If your facility lacks broadband Internet, we can work with your local Internet service provider to install it. DICOM-compliant modalities are desirable, but in some cases legacy non-DICOM equipment can be sent to Virtual Radiologic's systems via an existing or purchased teleradiology system.
What about security and confidentiality? Are you HIPAA-compliant?
Our technology is Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)-compliant. We designed our processes and technical infrastructure to guarantee secure and confidential data transactions.
Do you have technical support?
Virtual Radiologic provides always-on assistance through our clinical operations
center, available toll-free 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Customer
service representatives will answer your questions or connect you directly with
the radiologist handling your case. Because we use a paperless system, operations
